The Month Ahead

December 2005

The funny thing about system launches is that it's easy to get so engrossed in preparing for the deluge of new content that one kind of, sort of forgets to update the Month Ahead.

Imagine that.

So here we are, barely a week left in November, and the fabled month of December is staring us in the face. So what have we got in store?

Well, the rest of the Xbox 360 launch library, for one. It's a feat we've never accomplished before, to my memory, but we're going for it here: a review of every single launch game for the Xbox 360, as well as a couple (such as Dead or Alive 4 that aren't, strictly speaking, launch games. Yes, I know that Microsoft considers "launch" to be a window that extends for 2 months from 11/22, but here at Gamenikki, we chart our own course.

Fortunately for your favorite review crew, we'll have a chance to catch our breath after DoA4 hits, with no new 360 titles shipping until January. That'll let us give some much-needed love to the Xbox, PlayStation 2, and sundry other systems forgotten in 360's wake.

Those of you who aren't ready to make the step up to a new platform (or just don't care to), fear not - there will be plenty of gaming goodness for your boxes for the foreseeable future. Seems that's an unintended side benefit of the ever-increasing cost of gaming development. Less innovation and fewer risks taken, sure, but extended development cycles for systems that might otherwise have been cast aside fairly quickly.

Tomorrow is here, and yesterday isn't ready to leave yet. Sounds like us at New Year's.
